Lauren Underwood is an American political advisor currently working as the Senior Director of Strategy & Regulatory Affairs at Next Level Health. She also serves as an adjunct instructor for Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies. She was previously appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a Senior Advisor at the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Underwood is running for Congress in the 14th congressional district of Illinois. She won the Democratic primary held on March 20, 2018 with 57% of the vote (total of 7 candidates) . The general election will be held on November 6, 2018 against incumbent Republican Congressman Randy Hultgren.

Early life
Lauren Underwood grew up in Naperville, Illinois and attended Neuqua Valley High School. She is a registered nurse and has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health Nursing & Health Policy from Johns Hopkins University.

In August 2017, Lauren Underwood announced her candidacy for the 14th Congressional District of Illinois.
Lauren's candidacy has been featured as a part of coverage of high levels of female candidates running in the 2018 midterms, including the January 2018 edition of Time Magazine "A Year Ago, They Marched. Now a Record Number of Women Are Running for Office".

Economy
Lauren supports investment in modernizing local infrastructure, including Metra commuter rail stops for DeKalb and Kendall counties.
